Qualifications for Civil Engineering Laboratory Technicians launched

CETANZ and InfraTrain New Zealand are pleased to announce that the new National Certificates for civil engineering laboratory technicians are now available for enrolment.

CETANZ initiated the development of these National Certificates after identifying the need to attract and retain staff in civil engineering laboratories, and for a structured career pathway based on qualifications.

The new qualifications have been specifically designed to meet the requirements of the industry. They will enable laboratories to attract new people looking to train for a career in civil engineering testing and will provide current technicians with recognition of their skills and knowledge.

Civil engineering laboratories play a key role in quality assurance for civil engineering construction and the new qualifications mark a significant step forward by formalising industry best practice standards. As a result CETANZ and InfraTrain hope to create a more structured framework to attract more interest in our industry particularly at a younger level.

The National Certificates are available at two levels, making them suitable for new and experienced technicians. They are achieved on-job using a proven model of industry training and an InfraTrain Regional Advisor will provide support throughout the entire process. The qualifications are flexible and can be tailored to meet specific work requirements by selecting one or more elective strands in Aggregate; Soil; Concrete; Bitumen; Asphalt or Field Testing.

CETANZ believes that ongoing learning is essential for individuals and for the future success of the industry. We strongly encourage civil engineering laboratory technicians to enrol in these qualifications, and take the opportunity to get their skills and knowledge recognised.
